Have you decided to do in-house ID card printing? If so, you have definitely made the right decision. With your own ID card software and printer, you have more leeway when it comes to the design and production of your company ID card. Likewise, doing so affords you to upgrade your ID card system to a sophisticated level that is more beneficial for your company. Upgrading your system is not that difficult but it needs commitment on your part as you need to make plans.
Knowing the purpose of your company ID would help you find the right ID card software to use. The software will make it easy for you with the design as well as with the different features you want in the ID card. If it is just a basic ID with the usual information, like company name, logo, employee name, signature and photo, you can easily get the software with templates to make it easier for you. If you need additional features to make your ID card more secure against forgery, you need to get the ID software that delivers that requirement. Features such as holograms and watermarks are your best option to keep your ID card secure.
If you plan to use smart cards for access control and monitoring purposes then you have to get the software with encoding features. The program should also allow for integration with your existing security and human resource database. Upgrading you ID card system using access cards would also require other components like the card reader, access control panel and your computer to make it work. You can set up the complete system or do it in stages as your budget allows. The best is to get the right software containing these features. You may not need all the features at once but if you have plans for improving the system in the future, it would be easier for you.

There are some software systems that are compatible with several ID card printers while some printers like the Zebra printer comes with its own software. The features you have in the software should be available in the ID card printer. For example if you expect an access card with a magnetic stripe, you need an ID card printer and software that would enable for the encoding of data in the ID card.
The benefit of in-house printing is that any information or security features you plan to incorporate in your ID card remains within the company only. There is no third party involve. With your own ID card software, you can easily make changes in the design of the ID card. You can upgrade from the basic ID card to the smart card for attendance monitoring and time keeping functions. Later on, you can easily incorporate access control features if the need arises as you already have the right tools for it.

Sorry, but yes, that’s a scam. You have to go in person to the licensing/food permit place, pay a small fee, and take a short test. Those sites you mention are just there as an attempt to collect unwary persons’ money.
