I got an infection from a earring from Claire’s starter kit earrings, is it cheap jewelry?

I got my ears pierced at claires with the starter kit earring. The 5mm white gold CZ to be exact and got an infection. Is the earring made out of bad materials which could be causing my infection or reaction?

no, it’s most likely the butterfly backing

I had my 2nd lobes pierced there, the starter earring are good quality, the problem is the backs

Butterfly backings are notorious for collecting and breeding bacteria no matter how much you clean (I had this problem)

So I went to Hot Topic and picked up some 20g seamless rings (like the kind for nostril piercings) and once I put them in and continued using the ear piercing cleanser Claire’s gave me, the inflammation went away

Just change to some 20g body jewelry rings and you will be fine
