Color Detector for Color blind person?
My wife is color blind – loves to make quilts and things but is always asking me if something is blue or green, red or brown.
Is there some kind of pocket detector / sensor that I could get her where she would put it on the material and it would tell her what color it is? I’m thinking along the lines where you bring a color chip to Home Depot and they can mix paint the same color – they use a device that detects the color sample.
Anyone know where I can get something like this for a few hundred dollars or less?
The problem is that even with 8-bits per primary you have 16 Million colors.
There are color analyzers, but what they do is get a color and extract the 3 primaries red, green and blue or Cyan, Magenda, and yellow. (That’s what home depo uses)
If your wife can guess (or learn to guess) the true color from these values, then you can use one of those.
Having something that spells out “brown”, “light blue”, etc is extremely hard and impossible to cover 16 million variations.
However, I would check toys, maybe there are simple kid’s toys that can tell 8-10 colors.
