I have the title and bill of sale in hand but am having problems registering the car, what can i do?
I purchased a car in OR and I am from MN. I have both the title and bill of sale from the car but the mechanic that sold me the car never bothered to transfer the title into his name. They told me at the DMV they could not help me. Is there anything that can be done, I heard I could force transfer the title is this true?
What your seller did is illegal and called “jumping the title”. It is done to avoid paying sales tax and DMV fees. The seller is the only person who can and should rectify your problem. You were foolish to accept a title that was in someone else’s name. Contact your seller and demand a valid, merchantable title from him or return the car and get your money back. If he won’t co-operate, turn him into the police and the DMV
