What to put in a Holocaust Scrapbook?
So, we’re learning about Anne Frank’s diary in English class, and we have to do a type of memoir as if we were living during the Holocaust. My topic is:
You are a non-Jewish German Person [bystander]. What is happening on the streets of Germany that you are observing? How do you feel?
I was planning on being a 12 yrs old girl who does a scrapbook. However, i need help on what to put inside. I need about 20 items. So far, I have:
-a jewish star
- a flower
-a piece of broken glass[from kristallnacht]
I also need descriptions/entries for each one. So if you have any ideas, please explain why.

What a neat idea!
Here are some ideas–hope they help!
A black and white photo that your person picked up that was dropped by Jewish person getting into a cattle car.
A piece of wood/nail/steel from the railroad.
Gold/diamonds–these items were taken from the Jews
Silverware/china/something valuables these items had to be left, they could not take them.
black boots–SS soldiers
little jewish candle holder ( can’t remember what they are called)
bloody hankie from when the SS beat a Jew on the streets.
a bullet casing (maybe NOT a good idea for school) take a pic
A child’s toy–sadness of the Holocaust – children died
woman’s scarf (it was cold when Kristallnatch took place)
maybe a tooth-from a beating
maybe a picture of a German street sign of where you character lives
Maybe a dress or article of cloths for your character
If you are a child you may have been a Hitler Youth. So all the things around you may seem the norm-especially since you’re a child. So you can make your person be sad about the events or be a little vicious German who throw rocks at people w/stars. Or your character could have a heart and feel bad for them and take them bread/water-whatever. You can talk about how your family reacts to the events. You could find a city where you want your character to live (have a picture too)
