what is the going rate for concrete labor (per yard)? i have 7 yards to be poured?

i’m working for somebody and don’t know what to charge

I have the new 2010 RS Means Cost Data book on my desk (I’m an estimator for a engineering and construction company — Means is the industry standard) Base costs are:

For less than 5 yards total:
labor (including building forms, pumping and finishing) = national average of $250 per cubic yard but North Carolina is half that due to lower labor rates in the state
So, total with equipment, overhead and profit is about $125 per cubic yard.

If the job is OVER 5 yards the price drops to about $105 per cubic yard (the larger the job the smaller the unit cost)

They also give the average price in North Carolina for a 10′ x 10′ x 12″ thick reinforced 3000 psi concrete pad as around $250 for labor only. This comes in higher than you would get by figuring by the yard and might be a safer unit to use for flatwork slabs.

You might want to look into buying the RS Means cost books if you are getting into estimating. They give you everything you need to price jobs. They have a bookstore on line at
