Are thorium pebble beds a better form of nuclear energy, inc. waste disposal, etc.?
Nope.
Inadequate energy density. Thorium is also not as readily available as Uranium is. Both leave a toxic legacy that lasts for generations.
Plus you still ahve the problem of where to put the wastes. The pro-nuclear propaganda and propagandists neglect to tell people that currently most reactors in the US have their containment buildings full of spent fuel rods, and they are also storing spent fuel rods and other highly radioactive wastes outside in stainless steel casks, and despite the name stainless- it still corrodes. These are sitting in the floodplains of over half the popluation of the US’ water supply- if not more. There is no place to put it permanently. If there was, there is still the matter of safe transport to work out.
