Is it normal to loose the taste of most foods after a tonsillectomy?
After my tonsillectomy I was able to taste but could hardly swallow. As I started to heal I started to loose taste in my mouth with certain foods such as pizza and hamburgers. After surgery the back of my throat was oval with a thing (abdulla) hanging. As I healed and was able to swallow the oval shape in the back of my mouth flatten and no thing(abdulla) hanging anymore and can not taste certain foods well anymore.
The uvula is the piece in the back of your throat that hangs down and it doesn’t have anything to do with taste.
How long ago was your tonsillectomy? It can take 3 weeks or more for complete healing. Any amount of swelling back there (whether you can see it or not) can affect the airflow from your nose, which is how your tastebuds carry the taste. (If you hold your nose and eat, you can’t taste anything, even though your tastebuds are intact.)
Did you have your adenoids removed as well? Those are just a little below/behind the nose, so that could be worth investigating.
I’m assumming an ENT removed your tonsils and s/he should have the answers to your questions. If it was another kind of doctor, they should still hear from you so you can ask them. If you don’t get any answers, then an opinion from another ENT should help.
