Lathe Block

Working with Lathe tools makes your workplace a mess. Tools that may be scattered all around the place makes the general look of the place not workable and some of the smaller ones may not be found from this mess too. Hence, it is always advisable to place them in their respective holders and boxes that would maintain the appearance of your workplace. Also they will not wear off faster when taken care to place them in a clean and nice place.

Lathe tool holder helps you to keep them properly arranged and easily retrieve when required. It generally has a bed rail that is meant to place the tools and a support block which supports the tools. These tools are normally big sized, and hence the the holder has to have a good back support.

they can be a wall mounted one or a box type one that is placed on the floor. Wall mounted ones are more advantageous because they require very less space to accommodate, specially most people would want a larger work area. The box type on the other hand is easier to use and is more reliable in case of heavy tools.

It has an arm rest where the lathe tools are sidely mounted and the narrower part rests. The other end of the tool extends outside the lathe tool holder and is free to pick up while working.

Lathe tool holder can also be slidable type or a rotatable type. The slidable type of holder has a drawer type of arrangement that helps to slide the tools inside and outside with ease. Rotatable type, on the other hand has a centre pole that is fixed with a clamp. The tools are mounted so that the lathe tool holder can be rotated and you can pick any tool from any direction by just rotating the lathe tool holder.

Sometimes a lathe tool holder is also equipped with a knife holder along with the tools for working purposes. These knife holders are usually in the form of a sleeve fixed to a single end, but mostly in a traverse manner.

the holders have a selected place for each tool to be placed so that you can have a track of what tool is present or whether a tool is properly placed and used. Most of them are made indigenously for working at homes or smaller lathe, but those that are professionally made too are available that is made with patented designs and are very useful for larger workplaces, and can hold more tools in a single holder.

In most cases, holders are supplied with the metal tools to place selected tools at selected places or sockets that are present to place them. it is always advantageous to have things in their place so that you do not have to waste much time searching for them in other place. so the next time you buy tools, get their holder too.

I am looking for plastic blocks for milling parts and also to be used on a lathe. Really looking for like 3″x5″x3″ type blocks. I don’t really care what kind of plastics they are just something to practice with. Any help looking for budget plastics. Don’t really want to go with tap plastics because they are expensive. I am in the bay area. Any help would be great thanks.
