There are certain kinds of toy fads that really are harmless – the toys aren’t expensive, and there are so many of them that they keep your children constantly entertained. And let’s face it – it certainly makes for a good deal of excitement for a child to have something to look forward to that her parents who will leave no stone unturned to get. Let’s go over a few of the best kids toys that have one thing in common – they’re all about a fad – a current obsession.
Let’s start with Silly Bandz – a surprisingly enduring fad that has been around for two years now. These are bracelets made of rubber bands. What’s exciting about them is that they are molded into cool animal shapes that they assume when at rest. Stretch them and pulled them out and they do stretch like regular rubber band. With go in the spring into the shape of an animal. You can even design fees to be children’s toys. They just thought that these would be fun rubber bands to have in the office and that people wouldn’t have the heart to throw them in the waste basket. They became so popular with children though that schools had to post notices outside that Silly Bandz wouldn’t be allowed in the class anymore.
Children love their pets. If you don’t let them have a real one, sometimes, a device that can stand in for one can be satisfying as well. Consider two pet substitutes that made for the best kids toys ever about 10 years – one was a cute little furry critter called Furby that had huge eyes that would go perfectly on a doll of a girl; the other was the Tamagotchi, a little LCD screen that displayed the picture of a little digital pet. The digital pet on the screen would do everything that a real pet would, and you had to feed it, walk it and play with it. If you didn’t do any of these things, your pet would die. Furby on the other hand looked a lot more like a real pet – kind of like a cross between a parrot, an alien and a teddy bear. It spoke to you in its own funny language and even learned English over time. They still sell Furby. Even if it’s heyday is well behind it.
And finally, is the Sesame Street Muppet toy Tickle Me Elmo from about three years ago. No one really understood what this little red furry doll had that it could completely keep little children in its thrall – the soft little thing that giggled and vibrated. Unbelievably, this $25 doll actually sold for more than $1000 in the secondhand market. Today, the craze seems to have waned somewhat; you can actually buy it that stores at a reasonable price.

Are there any risks associated with rubber rain boots?
I heard you’re not supposed to wear them for long periods of time…that they might cause heart problems or something? Is this true??? What are the risks and myths?
That’s all myth. If the boots fit well there is no practical limit to how long you can wear them… 23/7 – 365… If you wanted to…
Just make sure they fit well.
