Over the years, the framing technology has evolved to adapt to the changing way of life of the 21st century. With the presence of modern technology, framing techniques have come to involve a considerable use of automatic tools combined with the traditional manner of framing works which is basically influenced by art. However this advancement did not fully replace handmade picture frames which are undeniably preferred because of their aesthetic value.
The traditional way of framing or handcrafted frames generally outclass many frames which were manufactured using modern tools as handcrafted products require precision, an ample amount of attention and most importantly, talent. These manufactures usually carry a touch of perfection, distinction, uniqueness and originality that give them a great monetary value. The most important part of it is that, these goods were not mass produced bearing the same design thus; one is expected not to see such frames anywhere.
The modern way of framing however made use of automatically operated tools that made framing works more convenient such that hundreds of frames are manufactured in a short period of time. Framing procedure becomes a routine for workers as pre-patterned frame parts are just assembled or molded together.
Be it modern or traditional, framing involves several processes to be able to come up with a finished frame product. One of which is the traditional cutting using sharp edged cutting material such as heavy-duty scissors and blades. Nowadays gigantic machine-operated cutting tools are used for metals, hardwood, plastics and among others.
Carving, which is a traditional form of art is done manually in handcrafted materials while in modern art, carving can be accomplished using battery or electrically-powered carving tools. Manual carving however carries more precision as it is manually controlled, thus the amount of force applied is dependent on the worker and not on the machine.
Sculpting, which involves a three-dimensional artwork performed by shaping and combining both soft and hard materials has been incorporated in the framing works. Generally, these items are more expensive as sculpting involves talent and skill.
The assembling part involves joining and clamping together frame parts or devices using adhesives and which are generally done manually although some machines are especially designed to do the application of a considerable amount of force to join the parts together.
The traditional and modern way of framing may vary in their approach, methods and materials but frame manufacturers share one common goal which is to provide a medium from which subjects for framing are preserved and showcased to be appreciated by both ordinary people and art enthusiasts.
Choosing from a wide array of frame styles can be difficult but experts will definitely help. If you want a picture frame that will match the theme of your house, then you can have it as a custom frame designed according to your preference.

Structural Frame- What materials have been used? (technique) What signs or symbols have been used? What values and beliefs are respresented? How has the artwork been organized? Look at focal point, balance compositional devices.
