A radio controlled helicopter is a type of model aircraft with the same functional features as a real helicopter. In fact, some RC helicopters are able to perform maneuvers well beyond the abilities of their full-size counterparts. Whether seen as a rewarding, exciting hobby or highly competitive sport, flying an RC copter has become increasingly popular with young and old alike, affording its fans with hours of fun and satisfying recreational activity.

While operating an RC copter is often thought of as solely a pastime or sporting pursuit, model helicopters also have commercial and military applications. They are sometimes used for taking photographs, shooting videos and monitoring and relaying information about sites, installations and structures from the air. In terms of power sources, there are two main types of radio controlled helicopters:

1. Nitro–These models use a mixture of nitro (or glow) fuel to power the engine and come in sizes such as 0.30, 0.50 cubic inch and so on. The engine size determines the size of the helicopter itself, which is numbered accordingly. Nitro helicopters are noisy, messy, and expensive to maintain but are preferred by those who demand a high degree of realism from their RC copter. Flying times range from only 8 to 10 minutes to 15 or more, depending on engine and tank size, and prices start in the several hundreds of dollars but can go much higher.

2. Electric–Electric helicopters are quiet, don’t pollute or create oily messes, and cost less than nitro models. Improvements in battery technology have lead to smaller, higher- performing batteries, resulting in longer flight times than in past. Because they are less noisy, they can be used in areas that are usually off-limits to nitro engines. The recent introduction of coaxial bade technology has given the electric-powered RC copter additional stability and made it easier to control, with a much shorter learning curve than nitro helis.

Beginners are recommended to start with an electric helicopter and make the move to nitro only after considerable flying skills have been achieved. Of course, some choose to stay with electrics, for reasons unrelated to degree of difficulty and cited above. The Internet is a great source of information about the RC copter, as are magazines such as “RC Heli” and “Rotary Modeler.” An online search is also the best way to check out all the different models available and to find the best prices.

will powering subs that can handle 1100 rms watts with a amp not putting out 2200 rms watts hurt the subs?

i have an alpine v-power amp currently powering two 12” treo subs. I wanna use the same amp to power 2 12” audiobanh subs (AW1206Q)

If you’re asking if under powering subs will hurt them then the answer is no but you need to be sure to set the gain on the amp correctly to prevent damage.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp for correct power matching and to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).
