Mother of Bride in black?
I am getting married in June and my mom recently got a really cute black dress. It is rouched on top with flower appliques all over the skirt that comes just about to the knee. We both don’t know all that much about wedding attire rules, but have concerns on whether it is considered “proper” to wear black as mother of the bride.
If it is just rare, thats fine, but if its one of those major no-no’s, then I’d really like to know.
If she can’t wear it to the wedding then she can still wear it to one of the many other formal events so its fine.

I am from the south, but I am not traditional in most of my wedding choices. I just don’t want my traditional guests getting to the wedding and gasping in horror!
You may be fine with it, and she may be fine with it, but the old school guests will find it disrespectful.
In the past, if the mother wore white or red, it was viewed as trying to upstage the bride. If she wore black, it signified that she was not supportive of the marriage, and viewed it as more of a funeral than a wedding. These are outdated ideals of course, many brides and mothers choose to ignore them.
