I went to OutterBanks beach and saw 100′s of clear disk shaped things washed up on beach What were they?
someone told me it was jellyfish but I never saw jellyfish that looked like that and wondered if they still stung when dead?
They probably are jellies washed up from the higher tides. I’ve seen a few out at Hatteras even in normal weater conditions that were washed up (maybe caught up in some of the algae that was floating that was washed up as well).
No, once they’re dead they can’t sting, but when they’re out of the water, you can’t tell for certain that these are dead – most types don’t move around on their own (and those that do use a “pulsating” motion), they just float with the current.
