What are cow hides worth? Do people even buy cowhide?
My mom has about 5 or 6 cowhides in our basement that she wants to sell on ebay or craig’s list. I *think* they are cow. They are a tan color, smooth on one side and sueded on the other. I don’t know anything about leather. I believe they were my uncle’s, because he had a ranch.
We want to sell these but aren’t sure what price to ask.
I have a shorthorn and I am starting his hide’s bidding at $600. That’s just a start, it will probably get up to about $1000. It also depends on the type, my hide is a shorthorn, so it is red and white. It sounds like you have Charolai, which is a light blondeish tan color. That should start bidding at around $600 as well, depending on the condition. If it is old and the condition is not very good, start a little lower. And make sure it’s genuine, like you said…Look up some history too that’d be interesting about your uncle’s ranch.
Advertise at a kind of fair. I sell at the OC fair every year and that’s where your market is.
