What brushes do concept artist use? + can someone give me some information about concept art?
What brushes do concept artist use? + can someone give me some information about concept art?
Please, only serious answers,
Can someone explain a bit more to me about the basics of concept art and what brushes they use? I’ve seen lots of tutorials on youtube and other sites but they never tell anything about their tools
I know practice makes perfect but some basics and brushes would be nice,
Also any tips for beginners?

Actually, concept art is the field I’m currently studying to be in. That being said, I don’t know everything yet as I’m still studying, but I do know quite a bit.
Firstly, most concept artists don’t use “brushes” they work on the computer. Just like traditional media, though, there are a lot of ways of working on the computer. Some techniques I’ve seen used before are photoshop with a hard brush at low opacity. With this technique the main goal is layering the color utilizing the mixing that lower opacity offer. When doing this, re-sampling colors is a constant on going and this is near impossible without a tablet. Another technique is using corel painter with created brushes. Now, corel painter has a very in-depth brush creation system, but it does emulate painting better than photoshop. Because of this, there is no set-in-stone method to painting using corel painter.
Secondly, one thing I have to stress is technical skills. The professionals only use the computer because they’ve put in their 10,000 hours in their craft. They didn’t become good overnight and working on the computer didn’t help speed their progression. Learning how to paint and draw from real life is imperative for a concept artist. Don’t focus on the individual painting techniques till you have your rendering skills down.
Finally, concept art is primarily about concept. This means: imagination. That’s something you can’t be taught, but you can exercise. Don’t exercise it in a way that you’re copying someone else’s imagination. What I mean, think original, think outside of the box, generally speaking, if you were “inspired” to concept art because of the environment concepts for “Avatar” or the character designs for the new alice in wonderland movies, it’s not a wholly original imagination.
