I need to stain a rod of wood but need to leave some areas unstained. What can I use to prevent staining?
I want to stain quite a few rods and intend on placing alphabet stickers on the wood prior to staining so that when the wood is stained and the stickers are removed, the letters would show through in the original color. I did a test and the stain seeped through under the sticker. Any suggestions? I also tried using clear spray paint (didnt work at all) to maintain the original wood color then stained. I tried wood glue over an area and stained it but it looked dirty after staining.
In a nut shell, forget stain. Prime,sand lightly, paint a base coat, apply stickers and paint with a finish coat. Remove the stickers before the paint dryes.
